Holotype (BMNH [J. Beccaloni, pers. comm.; examined]); type locality: Trinidad. Original rank: species. Current rank and status: valid species ( Brölemann 1898, 1909; Kraepelin 1903; Attems 1930; Bücherl 1939, 1942 a, 1974; Schileyko 2002); Bücherl (1974) divided S. angulata into three subspecies, two of which were recognized by Schileyko (2002).

Distribution (of the nominate subspecies): US Virgin Islands ( St. Thomas ), St. Vincent, Grenada, Trinidad, Venezuela, Ecuador, Bolivia, & Brazil (Pará, Amazonas, Roraima, & Mato Grosso) ( Pocock 1893; Brölemann 1909; Bücherl 1939, 1942 a, 1974; Schileyko 2002). Maps: none.
