Holotype ( BMNH); type locality: St. Johns Bluff , now part of Ft. Caroline National Memorial , Timucuan Ecological & Historic Preserve , Jacksonville, Duval Co., Florida, USA .
Original rank: species. Current rank and status: synonym of Hemiscolopendra marginata ( Say, 1821) ( Hoffman & Shelley 1996, Shelley 2002).
Remarks: Scolopendra punctiventris was subsequently designated the type species of Hemiscolopendra Kraepelin, 1903 , by Attems (1930:110).
