Holotype: not known to exist, not found in BMNH in 2005; type locality: Brazil, Minas Gerais / Bahia / Pernambuco / Sergipe / Alagoas Edos., unknown site on Rio São Francisco.

Original rank: species. Current rank and status: synonym of S. viridicornis Newport, 1844 ( Kraepelin 1903; Brölemann 1909; Attems 1930; Bücherl 1939, 1942 a), the first two authors erroneously crediting herculeana to Koch (1863 a) rather than 1847.

Remarks : Scolopendra herculeana was omitted by Bücherl (1974).
