Neotype ( VMNH); neotype locality: Picolata, St. Johns Co., Florida, USA ( Hoffman & Shelley 1996, Shelley 2002) .

Original rank: species. Current rank and status: valid species of Hemiscolopendra Kraepelin, 1903 ; transferred into this genus by Hoffman & Shelley (1996).

Distribution : an irregular area in the southeastern and southcentral United States extending from central Virginia, southern Ohio­Illinois , northwestern Arkansas and northcentral Texas to the south Florida Keys , the Gulf Coast , the Rio Grande , & Jim Wells Co. , Texas; the westernmost records are in the Chihuahuan Desert of Presidio Co. , Texas ( Hoffman & Shelley 1996, Shelley 2002).
