amazonica Bücherl, 1946:135–138 View in CoL .
Holotype ( IBSP [ Chagas 2000]); type locality: Manaus, Amazonas, Brazil .
Original rank: subspecies of S. morsitans L., 1758. Current rank and status: synonym of S. morsitans ( Würmli 1975, Shelley et al. 2005).
Anatomical illustrations: Bücherl (1946, figs. 1–3), Lewis (1966, figs. 2–4; 1968, figs. 3–9, 13–16, 20–24; 1969, figs. 3–5).
Remarks: Schileyko (2002) considered S. amazonica to be a full species, but he apparently was unaware of Würmli’s work, which he did not reference. While some disagree, L. E. Koch (1983), Lewis (2002), and Shelley et al. (2005) found Würmli’s argumentation convincing and accepted his conclusion that S. amazonica is a synonym of S. morsitans .
