Holotype: not known to exist, not present in ZIN (S. I. Golovatch & A. A. Schileyko, pers. comm.), not listed in Moritz & Fischer (1979) as being in ZMB; type locality: unknown .

Original rank: species. Current rank and status: synonym of S. morsitans L., 1758 ( Kraepelin 1903, Attems 1930, Bücherl 1942 a).

Remarks: Brandt (1840) attributed this species to DeHaan “in litt.” but proceeded to publish and validate the name, and Kraepelin (1903) and Attems (1930) attributed limbata to Brandt alone. In this particular case, according to Article 50.1.1 of the Code, DeHaan alone seems to be the appropriate author. The name was omitted by Bücherl (1974).
