woodi Meinert, 1886:198–199 View in CoL .
Original rank: species. Current rank and status: synonym of H. marginata ( Say, 1821) ( Hoffman & Shelley 1996, Shelley 2002).
Remarks : Meinert proposed S. woodi as a replacement name for S. inaequidens sensu Wood, 1862 (non S. inaequidens Gervais, 1847 ) based on specimens from Virginia, North & South Carolina, & Massachusetts, USA. Types are not required for replacement names, but as S. inaequidens sensu Wood was really a misidentification of S. inaequidens Gervais , no types exist for S. inaequidens sensu Wood. The MCZ houses a “ Type and Cotype” of S. woodi from Hilton Head, Beaufort Co., South Carolina; Massachusetts lies well outside its distribution, and H. marginata was deleted from the state by Shelley (2002).
