Holotype (BMNH dry collection [J. Beccaloni, pers. comm.; examined]); type locality: either South America or India (holotype came from a bottle labeled as both places and the label with the specimen states both).

Original rank: species. Current rank and status: questionable synonym of S. viridis Say, 1821 ( Kraepelin 1903, Attems 1930, Bücherl 1942 a, Shelley 2002).

Remarks: Scolopendra cuivis was omitted by Bücherl (1974). * This work by Pocock was published in two parts; pp. 51–68 appeared in the issue dated 1 January 1891, and pp. 221–231 appeared in that dated 1 February 1891 ( Evenhuis 2003:32).
