Holotype (not known to exist, not present at HNHM [Z. Korsós, pers. comm.]); type locality: Gran Chaco Resistentia , Argentina .

Original rank: species. Current rank and status: valid species ( Bücherl 1942 a). This is the latest opinion on S. appendiculata , although Kraepelin (1903) and Attems (1930) regarded it as a questionable synonym of Hemiscolopendra laevigata ( Porat, 1876) ; Bücherl (1942 a) cited it as both a valid species and a synonym of H. laevigata even though this violates the Code.
