Two syntypes (ANSP); type locality: Surinam.
Original rank: species. Current rank and status: synonym of S. morsitans L., 1758 ( Kohlrausch 1878, 1879, 1881; Haase 1887; Kraepelin 1903; Brölemann 1909; Attems 1930; Bücherl 1942 a). The syntypes lack the anterior transverse suture on T1 and are in poor condition; one is fragmented into three pieces, and most legs are missing from both specimens. Among the loose appendages in the bottom of the jar, I found one ultimate leg, which has the prefemoral spine arrangement of S. morsitans , so I confirm this synonymy; I placed this leg in a small vial for easy retrieval by future students. Remarks: This name was omitted by Bücherl (1974).
