longipes Wood, 1862:26 View in CoL .
Holotype: (ANSP); type locality: unknown, reported from Florida by Wood (1865).
Original rank: species. Current rank and status: synonym of S. alternans Leach, 1815 ( Kraepelin 1903; Brölemann 1909; Attems 1930; Bücherl 1939, 1942 a; Shelley 2002).
Remarks: Although he did not mention a type in the original description, Wood (1862) reported three specimens from the Smithsonian Institution , one from south Florida, where S. alternans is known to occur ( Shelley 2002), one from Florida in general, and one from Nova Scotia, Canada, which he acknowledged was probably an incorrect locality. Scolopendra longipes was omitted by Bücherl (1974).
