Holotype: not known to exist, not present in MHNG (P. Schwendinger, pers. comm.), not found in 2005; type locality: California, USA.
Original rank: species. Current rank and status: synonym of S. polymorpha Wood, 1861 ( Shelley 2002) , the only indigenous species of Scolopendra known to occur in California.
