Mergus sp. , verisimillime M. octosetaceus Vieill. View in CoL ( brasilianus Vieill. View in CoL postea) – Winge 1887: 23.

Mergus spec. ( octosetaceus View in CoL ?) – Goeldi 1894: 603.

Mergus sp. (“cfr. M. octosetaceus View in CoL ”) – Lambrecht 1933: 736. Mergus octosetaceus View in CoL – Brodkorb 1964: 249.

Mergus octosetaceus View in CoL – Mones 1986: 82.

Mergus octosetaceus View in CoL – Cuello 1988: 36.

Mergus cf. octosetaceus View in CoL – Nascimento and Silveira 2020: 490.

Winge (1887) reported two humeri and two tarsometatarsi from Lapa da Escrivânia V, besides the distal end of a tibiotarsus that probably belongs to the same species, possibly Mergus octosetaceus View in CoL , of which there were no records in Minas Gerais. He noted that the tarsometatarsus is similar to that of Mergus merganser View in CoL , Mergus serrator View in CoL , and Mergellus albellus View in CoL , shorter and stouter than in Merganetta armata View in CoL , and longer than in Lophodytes cucullatus View in CoL . The humerus has almost the same size as in M. albellus View in CoL (but the tarsometatarsus is larger)

and is slightly larger than in Oxyura leucocephala (of which the humerus used in comparison lacked the proximal end).
