Distribution. Widely distributed in Nearctic from Alaska to Mexico.
Remarks. As follows from the key below, the differences between this species and H. dentipes are very weak. The ranges of these two species overlap widely in North America. I supposed that H. cristata is a descendant of an earlier event of introduction of H. dentipes to America and, subsequently, H. dentipes was introduced to America once again. However, my molecular data indicates that H. cristata is a descendant of the circumpolar H. anxia .
