Taxon and DNA sampling
In this research, two specimens of Leutea kurdistanica (including holotype) were investigated using molecular and morphological features and compared with other species of Leutea . To determine its relationships to tribes and clades of Apioideae , previously available ITS (116 taxa) and ETS (55 taxa) sequences belonging to various taxa of Apioideae in each related tribe were retrieved from GenBank. The voucher specimens and GenBank accession numbers of the species are given in Appendix 1. The sequences of 10 new accessions for both ITS and ETS regions were obtained in this study (voucher information and GenBank references are given in Appendix 1). The outgroup in the ITS data matrix was assigned to two species of Bupleurum Linnaeus (1753: 236) , and Physospermum cornubiense ( Linnaeus 1756: 13) Candolle (1830: 246) was used as the outgroup in the ETS data matrix based on the results of phylogenetic studies of the subfamily Apioideae and pollen traits in the early-diverging Apioideae ( Banasiak et al. 2013, Baczynski et al. 2021).
