Type material. Holotype. [ CAMBODIA] ♂, Koh Kong (N11˚41′44.9″, E103˚06′51.8″, Alt.: 278m), 25.XII.2014 (Bae YS, Ju YD, Qi MJ, Bayarsaikhan U, Park BS, Na SM, Kim JW, Lee DJ), adults and genitalia slides no. INU-1978C.
Diagnosis. By the wing pattern of this species, it is hardly distinguishable from many others of the Oriental Halone . The male genitalia structure of the new species is similar to H. ariadna Bucsek, 2012 , but it can be distinguished from the latter by its more rounded valva, which has two short, angled processes at the upper and lower angles of the valva, and the aedeagus vesical having a large, spine-shaped cornutus. In H. ariadna , the irregularly rectangular valva has a short, truncated process at the lower angle of the valva and a long, spine-shaped basal process on the costal margin, and the aedeagus vesica has two stouts, spine˗shaped cornuti ( Bae & Bayarsaikhan 2019: 396, fig. 3; in the present study: fig. 9).
Description. Adult ( Fig. 3 View FIGURES 2–6 ). Length of the forewing 7 mm in male. Head, patagium, tegula, and thorax pale gray, with pale brown sprinkles and the thorax darker than the other parts. Forewing ground color pale gray, slightly tinged with yellowish, with pale brown sprinkles; distinct basal, antemedial, medial, postmedial, and subterminal dark brown patches on the costal margin; rounded small terminal dots dark brown; medial area of the forewing with two rounded patches (the discal area’s one being larger than the other), dark brown and distinct; cilia pale gray, slightly tinged with yellowish. Hindwing white-gray, with an indistinct brown discal streak; cilia white-gray. Abdomen pale gray. Male genitalia ( Fig. 8 View FIGURES 7–11 ). Uncus tapering, weakly curved apically, with a small apical spine. Tegumen roundly rectangular, sclerotized, and not shouldered distinctly. Short, stout valva rounded, with strongly sclerotized edge; apex of valva weakly covered with setae and two short, stout processes of the same length as each other, with the process of the upper angle with a slender apical spine. Vinculum broadly “V”˗shaped, almost the same length as the uncus and tegumen. Aedeagus slightly waved, with a weakly sclerotized carina, and vesica with a large spine-shaped cornutus, and scobinate. Female genitalia. Not collected.
Distribution. Cambodia (Koh Kong Prov.).
Etymology. The specific epithet is derived from the Latin “ speculum ” meaning “ glasses ”, referring to the valva shape of male genitalia.
