Remarks.
This species does not exhibit sexual dimorphism, and its extensive range spans from Southern USA and Mexico to South America, including Colombia and Venezuela. Consequently, other species were subsequently identified but ultimately determined to be synonymous. The wing pattern is similar to some species of Central American butterflies such as Pheles melanchroia ( Riodinidae ) and Chlosyne ehrenbergii ( Nymphalidae ), and to some extent to Sthemopsis clonia and E. alicia ( Riodinidae ), and so mimicry cannot be discarded.
