Type:— PHILIPPINES. Mindanao Island, Davao del Norte, Taumo River , July 1888, Warburg 14774 (type B destroyed). Type (neotype, designated here):— PHILIPPINES. Luzon Island, Pampanga, Mount Arayat , March 1903, Merrill 1389 ( US! [ US01210760 ]).
Perkins (1904) cited the specimen Warburg 14774 as type, indicating the herbarium B. Unfortunately, most of Warburg’s collection in B was destroyed in 1943 during World War II (R. Vogt, pers. comm.), without duplicates in other herbaria. For this reason, in accordance with Arts. 9.8 and 9.16 of the ICN, is designate here the specimen Merrill 1389 ( US 01210760) as a neotype of Colona hirsuta , selected based on morphological features congruent with the protologue description.
