MycoBank: MB 828693

Basionym: Opegrapha leucophila Nyl. , in Triana & Planchon, Ann. Sci. Nat., Bot., Sér. 5, 7: 336 (1867).

Types:— COLOMBIA [“Nova Granata”]. Pie de Cuesta , 1200 m, corticolous, 1863, Lindig 108 (lectotype PC0146191 !, designated here MBT 384439; isolectotypes BR!, PC0146190 !, H-NYL 6541, H-NYL 6538, M) .

= Ancistrosporella psoromica Komposch, Aptroot & Hafellner, Lichenologist View in CoL 34: 231 (2002), syn nov.

Types:— VENEZUELA. Estado Amazonas:Alto Orinoco, about 15 km W of La Esmeralda, plot of tower crane on the W bank of Surumoni R., ca. 110 m, 3°10’23”N, 65°40’27”W, tropical rainforest, on rough bark of Goupia glabra View in CoL (tree no. 909), tree of stratum A, height zone 3, on bare bark and partly overgrowing Chroodiscus sp. , 13 February 1997, Hafellner & Komposch 909-3-8 (holotype VEN, isotype GZU).

Description and illustrations:— Komposch et al. (2002).

Notes:—This species is very characteristic by the combination of the black, sessile, mostly simple, lirellate ascomata, the whitish P+ yellow-orange thallus (psoromic acid), the paraphysoids with enlarged and brown apices, and the narrow, 3-septate ascospores having one end curved to hooked and lacking a gelatinous sheath. A. psoromica described recently from Venezuela ( Komposch et al. 2002) is considered here as a new synonym of A. leucophila because no differences in the morphology and the chemistry of the type material of this latter with the detailed description of A. psoromica provided in Komposch et al. (2002) have been found. A TLC of the isolectotype of Opegrapha leucophila PC 0146190 revealed the presence of psoromic acid as expected. Opegrapha leucophila subsp. gracilior Nyl. (1867: 337) (type: H-NYL 6539!) is probably only a morph with slightly longer and narrower ascomata with less exposed hymenial discs.
