Boletobiinae View in CoL was elevated to subfamily by Fibinger and Lafontaine (2005). The most recent classification of Boletobiinae View in CoL encompasses six tribes: Phytometrini , Aventiini View in CoL , Araeopteronini, Eublemmini , Boletobiini , and Trisatelini ( Holloway 2011; Zahiri et al. (2012).
Adult characters. The adults exhibit a broad-winged, geometrid-like appearance, characterized by a fully scaled frons and elongated, slender labial palpi that are roughly scaled. Zahiri et al. (2011) identified several potential morphological synapomorphies, particularly in the male genitalia, where the central region of the valva is significantly sclerotized and features multiple processes arranged in a transverse manner, while the cucullus is reduced to a membranous flap. In females, the genitalia typically possess a ring of claw-like spines within the corpus bursae, which often has a narrow and somewhat coiled base.
Larval characters. First two pairs of prolegs are reduced and often warty or pubescent.
Diversity and distribution. More than 2000 species are distributed in the New World and the Old World. In India , 210 species are known in 57 genera.
