Remarks: Described from a single male specimen; material in MZUSP comprised of a male adult specimen missing left midtarsus and a separately pinned puparium missing the operculum. Originally deposited at the Instituto Butantan; specimen reared from Brazilian gracile opossum, Gracilinanus microtarsus (Wagner) . From Fonseca (1941: 486): “... Descrição feita do holótipo ♂ No. 3745 de minha coleção, no Instituto Butantan, exemplar único obtido por cultura de três larvas encontradas em parasitismo sobre o menor dos Didelfídeos, Marmosa microtarsus microtarsus (Wagner) , capturado em Butantan, S. Paulo, a 16. V.40.” [“...Description of the holotype ♂ No. 3745 from my collection at the Instituto Butantan, a unique specimen obtained from the rearing of three larvae found parasitizing the smallest of the didelphids, Marmosa microtarsus microtarsus (Wagner) , captured in Butantan, São Paulo, on 16. V.40.”]. Placed in Metacuterebra by Papavero and Guimarães (2009).

Nomenclatural status: Valid as Cuterebra townsendi ( Fonseca, 1941) .
