Type locality

Bauma de les Encantades [original citation: “Bauma de les Encantades, término municipal de Esponellá, provincia de Gerona”].

Type material

Syntypes: MZB 70-0345 / MZB 70-0355 (11 ♂♂, 25 ♀♀), type loc. (trap), R. Zariquiey leg. (ex coll. R. Zariquiey) .

Remarks

Zariquiey (1940) mentions as “Tipos” a number of specimens deposited in his private collection. At a later date he reports the collection of numerous specimens in traps. He mentions that he examined over a hundred specimens to compare this new subspecies with Speonomus faurai Jeannel from the type locality: the material from Bauma de les Encantades was originally attributed to the later species ( Jeannel, 1924a; Zariquiey, 1940). No collection date for this material is given. We have found 36 specimens in the MCNB collection from the type locality for esponellai, with collection labels that are either printed or hand-written by Zariquiey. None of these specimens have labels that identify them as part of the type series.
