Remarks

Escolà (1966) neither establishes a holotype nor states exactly how many specimens there are in the type series. In the introduction to the description, the author mentions the collection (directly or by trapping) of around 20 specimens during fieldwork performed between 30 December 1962 and 4 January 1963 (a number of specimens that he regarded as sufficient for study). Subsequently, however, in the body of the description, he indicates the choice of 10- 15 specimens of each sex to be measured (chosen at random, which implies that the original series must have had a larger number of specimens). The specimens located in the MCNB collection (19 ♂♂ and 35 ♀♀) have similar hand-written capture labels (mostly by O. Escolà himself) and red labels inscribed with “ Paratipo ” or “ Paratypus ”. Aside from the specimens captured in the above-mentioned period, the specimen MZB 78-1205 is also present, with a subsequent capture date (7 April 1963, O. Escolà leg.) that predates the publication of the description. This specimen also has a label with the inscription “org. cop. ♂ ” that indicates that its genitalia was studied, as well as a label indicating “Speoph. Kiesen. / andresi nov. / Escolá det.”, hand-written by F. Español. Additionally, this latter specimen is identified as a paratype on the record card of the Escolà’s data file. We have been unable to locate in the MCNB collection the two specimens that Escolà (1966) cites with the capture date of 1 January 1962 (O. Andrés leg.). Escolà (1977) provides the capture data (date and collector) of all the material discussed here.
