MZB 78-1097 / MZB 78-1103 (3 ♂♂, 10 ♀♀, 7 remains), Forat de les Casanoves (as “ Forat de les Cases Noves ”), 27-II-1972, J. Bley & A. Meseguer leg.

Remarks

Specimen MZB 78-1083 has a red label with the printed inscription “Tipo”, while the other specimens have red labels with the printed inscriptions “ Paratypus ” or “ Paratipo ”. In the original publication, Escolà (1971) does not establish a holotype, although in the introduction he states that these are “los dos primeros representantes de esta nueva especie” [the first two examples of this new species], whose details correspond to the specimens MZB 78- 1083 and MZB 78-1091 (1 ♂ and 1 ♀, respectively). Escolà then describes the species and at the end of the article provides a list of specimens captured in each of the caves he refers to (a total of 15 ♂♂ and 12 ♀♀ from six caves). In a subsequent addendum, where more data are provided ( Escolà, 1973), the author treats as paratypes all the specimens from all six localities mentioned in the original description, and specifies that the species was discovered in Avenc del Mort.

The MCNB holds 12 ♂♂, 16 ♀♀ and 7 remains from three caves (the author of the description used five different toponyms) labelled as part of the type series. These numbers do not coincide with those cited by Escolà (1971) but do match the collection data associated with the labels hand-written by the author himself. Specifically, Escolà (1971) cites 6 ♂♂ and 2 ♀♀ from Avenc del Mort on 25 October 1970, whilst in the collection there are 4 ♂♂ and 4 ♀♀ labelled with the same capture information. A ♂ specimen from Avenc del Pau Esteve with the accession number MZB 78-1092 and labelled “ Paratipo ” has the same information as MZB 78-1093 (apart from the names of the collectors, M. Ubach and O. Escolà) and is not included in the material mentioned by Escolà (1971). Nevertheless, both specimens appear on the record card of the author’s data file as “ paratypus ” and both are cited in a subsequent publication ( Escolà, 1980b).

Escolà (1971) cites 4 ♂♂ and 7 ♀♀ from “Forat de les Cases Noves”, although in the MCNB collection there are 3 ♂♂ and 10 ♀♀ labelled as paratypes, along with the remains of a further seven specimens. For all these specimens the same capture information is given (both in the description and on the labels the collection date is subsequent to the publication date). On the record card of the Escolà’s data file, these “ paratypes ” correspond to the four previously mentioned males and 11 females, along with other remains preserved in ethanol. Subsequently, the author indicates on the same record card that one of the males does not belong to the type series and in fact corresponds to a Troglocharinus ludovici Bellés & Déliot, 1983 . This specimen has been localized in the general collection, mounted with its genitalia .

The labels of the two specimens from “ Coves de Can Sala ” contain the date of capture, not mentioned by Escolà (1971) .

Some specimens of the type series of Speonomus vinyasi have turned out to belong to another species, Troglocharinus fadriquei Fresneda, Rizzo, Comas & Ribera, 2021 , recently described ( Fresneda et al., 2021). Consequently, the aforementioned authors have designated lectotype (MZB 78-1084) and paralectotypes of S. vinyasi (the rest of the series); specimens MZB 78-1094 / MZB 78-1103 (5 ♂♂, 11 ♀♀ and 7 remains) have been designated at the same time as paratypes of T. fadriquei (see below).

All specimens of the type series of S. vinyasi are deposited in the MCNB collection, except one paralectotype from Avenc de la Roca del Corb , deposited in the JCC ( Fresneda et al., 2021) .
