Type locality

Cova Palomera [original citation: “ Cueva “La Palomera” (Tahús) ... abierta a unos 5 metros sobre el torrente de Tahús, junto a su confluencia con el de Castells y a unos 500 m de este último pueblo”].

Syntypes: MZB 78-1932 / MZB 78-1942 (7 ♂♂, 6 ♀♀), type loc., 1-X-1950, F. Español leg.

Remarks

Español (1955) does not establish any holotype but mentions “un cierto número de ejemplares (♂♂ y ♀♀)” [a certain number of specimens (♂♂ and ♀♀)] without providing any more details. In the MCNB collection we have found 13 specimens. All have red, hand-written labels with the inscription “Serie típica”. Specimen ♂ MZB 78- 1932 was designated incorrectly by Escolà (2000) as a holotype (article 73.1.3.); this author added a red label on which he wrote “Tipus / Troglocharinus / impellitierii sp. n. ♂ / ESPAÑOL det. 52”. On the collection labels hand-written by Español appears the date October 1952. Español (1953b) cites this new subspecies in the section “Índice cronológico de los trabajos publicados” [Chronological index of published works] (1952), in which he mentions an on-going study of the corresponding material and gives its title and the journal of publication. The name becomes available with the publication of the description (article 13.1.1.). The 13 specimens belonging to the type series seem to be those that Escolà (1969) mentions with a collection date of 1 October 1955 (the collection campaigns that Español (1955) refers to took place in 1950).
