Type locality

Cueva del Carrascal [original citation: “Provincia de León: ... Cueva del Carrascal, a unos 90 minutos del pueblo de Sta. Olaja de la Varga”].

Type material

Holotype ♂: MZB 78-2199, type loc., 22-IX-1974, J. M. Salgado leg.

Paratypes: MZB 78-2201, MZB 78-2202 (3 ♂♂, 3 ♀♀), same data as holotype. │ MZB 78-2203, MZB 78-2204 (1 ♂, 3 ♀♀), Cueva de Covarrubias , 22-IX-1974, J. M. Salgado leg.

Remarks

Type series consisting of 27 ♂♂ and 34 ♀♀ from caves in the province of LeÓn ( Salgado, 1978). The collection labels of the specimens in the MCNB from Cueva del Carrascal and Cueva de Covarrubias (hand-written by Salgado) give, respectively, the dates 20 September 1974 and 23 September 1974. Along with this material there is also a pin, with accession number MZB 78-2200, with two male genitalia preserved in Canadian balsam and mounted on acetate labels. Each one has a hand-written label stating “C. del Carrascal / Sta. Olaja de la Varga / León — nº 2” and “C. del Carrascal / Sta. Olaja de la Varga / León — nº 3”. Given how they have been prepared (very similar to the preparation of the holotype), it seems likely that these genitalia were taken from two paratypes or, at least, were used as study material. Nevertheless, we cannot be sure which specimens they correspond to. The remaining paratypes are deposited in the CZULE collection ( Salgado, 1978; Fresneda & Salgado, 2016).
