Adelops kiesenwetteri Dieck, 1869 View in CoL ( Figs. 1 View FIGURES 1–5 , 26 View FIGURES 26–31 )
Adelops Kiesenwetteri Dieck, 1869: 350 View in CoL .
Current accepted name
Troglocharinus kiesenwetteri ( Dieck, 1869) View in CoL : Fresneda et al., 2024: 775.
Type locality
Montserrat (caves of) [original citation: “Grotten des Montserrat in Catalonien”].
Type material
Syntypes: MZB 78-2710, MZB 78-2711 (2 exs.), type loc. (ex coll. R. Zariquiey).
Remarks
Dieck (1869) neither establishes a holotype, nor states the exact number of specimens in the type series nor where it is deposited. Thanks to intercession by C. Bolívar, Zariquiey was able to study various cotypes sent by Dieck to Pérez Arcas and Escalera, that formed part of the MNCNM collection ( Zariquiey, 1924: 4). Zariquiey subsequently describes the material that he studied and indicates textually “Cuevas y Avencs de Montserrat. Cova del Salitre (Tipos), siete ejemplares Co-tipos! del Museo de Madrid; un ejemplar cotipo? ex coll. Bedel...” ( Zariquiey, 1924: 13). Based on this information, and in accordance with the inscription on its labels, specimens MZB 78-2710 and MZB 78-2711 from the Zariquiey’s collection, would seem to belong to this series of seven cotypes mentioned above. Both specimens have red labels with the inscriptions “Grotte pres du MONTSERRAT ” and “COTIPUS”. Specimen MZB 78-2710 also has a label with the inscription “CO-TIPOS de DIECK ex Museo de MADRID”. A third specimen (MZB 78-2712) has labels with the inscripions “ Montserrat ” and “Ex. coll. BEDEL” (the latter a red label) and seems to correspond to the specimen cited by Zariquiey as a doubtful cotype.
In the MNCNM collection (box 27) we have located a specimen from the Pérez Arcas collection with the hand-written inscription “Dieck” on the back of the label, as mentioned by Zariquiey (1924: 4). We have also found four damaged specimens that would seem to correspond to the material sent by Dieck to Escalera (none of these specimens are identified as belonging to the type series). The characteristics of the cards on which the specimens in the MCNB are mounted, as well as the transcription of their locality of origin, coincide with the those of the four above-mentioned specimens, which indicates that they all form part of the same group of specimens (with which they complete the series of seven cotypes studied by Zariquiey) .
