Type material

Syntypes: MZB 78-2158 (1 ♂), 78-3016 (1 ♀), type loc., F. Español leg. (ex coll. R. Zariquiey) .

Remarks

The type series consist of two males and a female, deposited in the collection of the Barcelona Museum and in the collection of the author of the description ( Zariquiey, 1940). We have located a male and a female with capture labels hand-written by Zariquiey and red labels with the hand-written inscription (probably by Zariquiey himself) “TIPO”. In the MNHNP general collection (box 52) there is a specimen labelled as follows :

[ Paratypus] (hand-written by F. Español on a red label) [CATALONIA / Tivissa /Avenc Fotx] (printed) [Español leg.] [ Paranillochlamys / velox nov. gen. n. sp. / Zariquiey] (the latter two labels hand-written by Español) .

It is likely, although we cannot be absolutely sure, that the labels with the inscription “TIPO” of the specimens deposited in the MCNB correspond to an attempt to designate a male holotype and a female allotype (this would explain the designation of “ paratype ” for the specimen deposited in the MNHNP). The capture labels of the two specimens in the MCNB collection give the date 3 February 1935 . In the general collection other specimens, captured by F. Español at the same site, have been located, most with a capture date of December 1935 according to the labels (not labelled as types). This date is posterior to the VI International Entomological Congress held in Madrid in September 1935 , whose proceedings, published in 1940, include the description of this new taxon. Each male specimen in the series is labelled with the symbol ♂ followed by a correlative number from 1 to 12 (the male MZB 78-2158 is number 8 of the series). Español (1950b) cites material captured in December 1934 without specifying how many specimens. This material has not been located in the MCNB collection —unless it corresponds to the above-mentioned specimens, most labelled December 1935 .
