Type Locality: Sri Lanka, Mulhalkelle Dist., Kubalgamuwa, 3000 ft ( 915 m).
Vernacular Names: Ceylon Spiny Mouse.
Distribution: Endemic to Sri Lanka.
Conservation: IUCN – Lower Risk (lc).
Discussion: Subgenus Pyromys . Revised by J. T. Marshall, Jr. (1977 b); reviewed by Corbet and Hill (1992) and Phillips (1980).
