Clinopodium rugosum Linnaeus View in CoL , Species Plantarum 2: 588. 1753.

"Habitat in Carolina, Jamaica, Gallia aequinoctiali." RCN: 4286.

Lectotype (Epling in Revista Mus. La Plata, Secc. Bot., n.s., 7: 464. 1949): [icon] " Clinopodium rugosum , capitulis scabiosae " in Dillenius, Hort. Eltham. 1: 88, t. 75, f. 86. 1732. - Typotype: Herb. Sherard No. 1175 ( OXF) .

Current name: Hyptis alata (Raf.) Shinners View in CoL ( Lamiaceae ).

Note: Epling (in J. Bot. 67: 9. 1929) indicated a Dillenius specimen as the “standard” specimen, but this is not equivalent to a type statement (see Jarvis & al. in Taxon 50: 508. 2001). The epithet “rugosa” is not available in Hyptis because of the existence of H. rugosa Benth. (1833) .
