Type species. Empoasca (Empoasca) solana (DeLong, 1931) View in CoL : 50.

Distribution in the New World. Canada, USA, Mexico, Cuba, Haiti, Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, Trinidad and Tobago, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Panama, Colombia, Venezuela, Peru, Brazil, Bolivia, and Argentina ( Fig. 1 View FIGURE 1 ).

Remarks. The subgenus was recovered as monophyletic by Xu et al. (2021), and diagnostic characters supporting status were: (1) forewing veins R2 and RM confluent at least for a short distance preapically, (2) sternite VIII of males truncate or produced, (3) pygofer without basolateral setal group, (4) ventral pygofer appendage present, (5) male subgenital plate well-developed basolateral lamella with a basal group of well-differentiated fine setae, (6) basal process of anal tube well-developed, aedeagus well-sclerotized, (7) preatrium usually as long as or longer than shaft and with paired basal processes.
