Sematophyllum subsimplex is distinguished from S. adnatum by the ovate-lanceolate shape of its leaves and the alar cells inflated and colored.
Distribution and habitat. Sematophyllum subsimplex is an Afro-American taxon registered from Mexico, Central America, the Caribbean, Western and Northern South America, Brazil, West and West-Central TropicalAfrica ( Buck, 1998; Allen, 2018). In Argentina, it has been previously recorded in Corrientes, Misiones and Santa Fe ( Matteri, 2003; Alvarez & Villalba, 2021; Alvarez et al., 2023). This species grows on tree trunks, branches, decaying logs, stumps, and even on bracket fungi.
