Le genre regroupe une cinquantaine de taxa (Baraud, 1988, 1990; Keith, 2000a, b; Montreuil, 2005, Keith & Lo Cascio, 2005; Bezděk, 2016d; Miessen, 2016; Montreuil et al., 2020) occupant l’Europe méditerranéenne et l’Asie Mineure. Une seule a été signalée d’Iran. La présence d’une deuxième espèce ( Haplidia tarsensis Kraatz,1882 ) dans ce pays est douteuse ( Bezděk, 2016d; Montreuil et al., 2020).
