DISTRIBUTION: Very widely distributed, from the southern United States through Central America and the Antilles to South America. Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil ( Bahia, Ceará, Minas Gerais, Pernambuco, Rio Grande do Norte, Roraima and Tocantins states), Colombia, Cuba, Guatemala, Honduras, Jamaica, Mexico, Nicaragua, Puerto Rico, Venezuela, U.S.A. ( Arizona, Florida, Idaho, Kansas, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Texas) ( Perkins 1980; Hansen 1998; Delgado et al. 1995; Valladares & Short 2011).
HABITAT RECORDS: Wide variety of habitats. Shallow water, adhering to stones, quiet water area at the edge of a stream and a lake ( Perkins 1980); temporary pools, with muddy substrate, pools in sand dunes, and margins of small streams ( Valladares & Short 2011); lakes, ponds and rock pools ( Benetti et al. 2021).
