Holotype:— CHINA.: China , s.d., Osbeck , s.n., ( LD, LD1291427 , digital image!).
Cyperus compactus was initially proposed by Retzius based on Osbeck’s collections from China. In the original description, he mentioned ‘ E China allatum communicavit Rev. D. D. Oscbeck’. We were able to locate only one specimen ( LD 1291427) collected by Osbeck from China at the Lund Herbarium. The reverse side of this sheet is labelled with “ Osbeck ” and “ China ”. Hence, the specimen LD 1291427 is the holotype.
