Lectotype (designated by Fischer 1932):— INDIA.: Chandrankonae [Currently Chandrakona, West Bengal], s.d., Koenig , s.n., ( LD, LD1293287 , digital image!); isolectotype: [ C, C10010264 , digital image!].
Cyperus niveus was proposed based on Koenig’s collections from Chandrakona (formerly Chandrankona), in West Bengal. Fischer (1932) listed the name C. niveus and indicated that the type specimen for the name C. niveus
Retz. is housed at Lund Herbarium. The Lund Herbarium contains only a single sheet of this species, but another sheet (C10010264) exists in the Copenhagen Herbarium labelled as Cyperus niveus Retz. , which matches the C. niveus sheet in the Lund Herbarium and is from the same locality. The sheet LD1293287 is likely the one referred to by Retzius while describing C. niveus , and there are two specimens mounted on this sheet, of which the specimen on the left side is better preserved one.
