Cyperus leucocephalus Retzius (1789:11) View in CoL
Lectotype (designated by Fischer 1932):— INDIA.: Chandrankonae [Currently Chandrakona, West Bengal], s.d., Koenig , s.n., ( LD, LD1292687 , digital image!); isolectotypes: [ C, C10010242 digital image!].
Retzius proposed Cyperus leucocephalus , based on the collections of Koenig from Chandrankonae (Now Chandrakona), in West Bengal. Fischer (1932) listed the name C. leucocephalus in bold letters to indicate that the type specimen for the name C. leucocephalus Retz. is housed at Lund Herbarium. Lund Herbarium harbours only a single sheet, but in Copenhagen Herbarium (C), there is a sheet under the name Scirpus coronarius Vahl , which is in congruence with the sheet of C. leucocephalus in Lund Herbarium, from the same locality. In support, Kern (1953) also made a label on both sheets that these sheets matched with each other. The specimen preserved in the sheet LD1292687 might be the one Retzius referred to while describing C. leucocephalus Retz. and constitute the lectotype as designated by Fischer (1932). There are four specimens mounted on the same sheet LD1292687, of which the better-preserved one is on the extreme left side of the sheet.
