Habitat. Sandy mud substrate with gravel and boulders, intertidal to 1 m.

Distribution. Wide distribution in the Indo-west Pacific, from the East coast of Africa to the Philippines, and Vietnam. Indonesia: Sulawesi and Maluku.

Remarks. The species is easily recognized by the dark brown longitudinal stripes on yellow base color of the shield, ocular peduncles, chelipeds, and ambulatory legs. It usually prefers gastropod with a narrow aperture as shelter, therefore the thorax is very often flattened.
