laevigatum Cuvier, 1817: 411 [ Onchidium ],
type locality unknown.
― Regarded as a problematic species by Semper (1885) but clearly a nomen nudum. Cuvier (1817) did not accompany the publication of the name with any description or reference to a previously-published illustration or description. The name Onchidium laevigatum in the second edition of Cuvier’s Règne Animal (1830: 46) also is a nomen nudum. Finally, Onchidium laevigatum appears again in the Édition illustrée of the Règne Animal (Cuvier, 1836—1849) as a nomen nudum (1837—1843: 69). Note that the exact publication dates of the mollusk parts of the Édition illustrée of the Règne Animal are unknown, but they took place between 1837 and 1843 ( Cowan 1976).
