type locality not indicated in original publication, but mentioned from “ port Praslin , à la Nouvelle Irlande” [ Papua New Guinea] by Lesson (1830: 297—299), and the three syntypes preserved at the MNHN were collected from “Nouvelle Irlande”.

― Synonym of Onchidium coriaceum ( Semper 1885) , valid ( Plate 1893; Hoffmann 1928; Labbé (1934a), transferred to Onchidella by Gray (1850) and Adams and Adams (1858). The date of the original publication is 1826 (Atlas), because the illustration of Onchidium marmoratum (pl. 14, fig. 3) was accompanied by the species name, although a written description was published later by Lesson (1830: 297—299).
