Diagnosis (based on the generic redefinition in Winterbottom, 2003). Head more or less depressed, no barbels present; fleshy cheek fold absent, though low folds or ridges present connecting papillae; no cephalic sensory canal pores; most sensory papillae on head and body elongate, finger-like or on ridges; chin with two short rows of sensory papillae converging toward each other posteriorly to form V-shaped pattern; sensory papillae in pairs or short vertical rows along mid-side of body.
