Current name: Bromelia pinguin L. ( Bromeliaceae ).

Note: Grant & Zijlstra (in Selbyana 19: 96. 1998) argue that B. karatas is the generitype, the choice having been made by Regel (in Gartenflora 17: 67. 1868) which therefore pre-dates the more widely accepted choice of B. pinguin , made by Hitchcock ( Prop. Brit. Bot.: 144. 1929).
