Chamaeleonidae View in CoL View at ENA ( Fig. 1D, E View Figure 1 )
Chamaeleo chamaeleon (Linnaeus, 1758) has small, straight and slender nasals, with smooth dorsal and ventral surfaces. The articulation surface housing the ascending nasal process of the premaxilla runs along the two anteriormost-thirds of the straight medial margin of the bone ( Fig. 1D View Figure 1 ). The anterior end displays a moderately wide, moderately long and pointed anteromedial process. The anterolateral process is not clearly recognizable, being represented only by a poorly developed expansion of the anterior corner of the lateral margin. The dorsal surface of the anterior end is covered by the articulation surface with the medial branch of the anterior dorsal process of the maxilla. The posterior end is pointed and the lateral margin is slightly wavy.
