Type species: Bassus pumilio Nees von Esenbeck, 1814 (monobasic).

Opisendea Foerster, 1863: 266 . Type species: Opisendea tenuicornis Foerster 1863 (monobasic). Synonymised by Wharton (1980).

Gnathospila Fischer, 1966b: 210 . Type species: Gnathospila quadridens Fischer 1966b (monobasic). Synonymised by Fischer (1970).

Diagnosis. Mandible with four teeth, second tooth of mandible long, triangular, fourth tooth often minute or inconspicuous ( Figs 20K–L View FIGURE 20 , 22H, 22K–L View FIGURE 22 , 24H,24K–L View FIGURE 24 , 26K–L View FIGURE 26 ); first flagellomere of antenna longer than second flagellomere ( Figs 20H View FIGURE 20 , 22G View FIGURE 22 , 24G View FIGURE 24 , 26F View FIGURE 26 ); precoxal sulcus absent or nearly so, at most shallowly impressed and with some micro-sculpture ( Figs 20D View FIGURE 20 , 22D View FIGURE 22 , 24C View FIGURE 24 , 26C View FIGURE 26 ); shape of pterostigma variable; vein CU1b of fore wing absent, resulting in an apico-posteriorly open first subdiscal cell; vein m-cu of fore wing postfurcal ( Figs 20A–B View FIGURE 20 , 22A–B View FIGURE 22 , 24A View FIGURE 24 , 26A–B View FIGURE 26 ).
