Subgen. I. Isolepis
Plantas terrestres, densamente cespitosas, anuales, o perennes de vida corta. Tallos simples, cilíndricos. Hojas basales, a veces reducidas a vainas. Inflorescencia generalmente pseudolateral, con 1-3(4) espigas protegidas por una bráctea foliácea ± larga. Estilo con 3 estigmas. Aquenios trígonos.
