16. Kalanchoe prittwitzii Engl. View in CoL in Engler & Diels (1907: 463).

Type:— TANZANIA. “am Wege Kampi ya ndizi—Kirangwana [“ Iringa District, Kampi-ya-ndizi to Kiranguana” fide Wickens (1987: 38)]”, 17 July 1901, G. von Prittwitz und Gaffron 267, (holotype, Herb. Isotype:— Raadts (1977: 114) recorded the existence of an isotype of the name K. prittwitzii at Herb. P. This specimen, a fragment according to Raadts (1977: 114), was not seen during the present study.

Nomenclatural notes:—When Engler, in Engler & Diels (1907: 463), published the name K. prittwitzii , he only cited “Nördl. Nyassaland: Uhehe, am Weg Kampi ya ndizi—Kiranguana selten (Hauptmann von Prittwitz und Gaffron n. 267.—Blühend im März 1902).” As far as could be determined, Herb. B holds a single G. von Prittwitz und Gaffron 267 specimen that has been furnished with the barcode B 10 0153769.

According to Raadts (1977: 114) the name K. prittwitzii has a holotype, G. von Prittwitz und Gaffron 267, which is kept at Herb. B, and which here, too, is interpreted as the holotype.

Taxonomic notes:—The name K. prittwitzii is in use for an accepted species.

Biographical notes:— Polhill & Polhill (2015: 489) provide a biographical treatment of Georg von Prittwitz und Gaffron (Breslau, Germany, 7 June 1861 –1936).
