Like 48 but perennial, slightly glaucous, sparsely hairy with long, whitish hairs on young shoots; lower and middle cauline leaves 2-pinnatifid, with distant, linear, ascending lobes; ligules c. 8 mm, often revolute soon after anthesis. 2л = 20. Open, sandy ground; lowland.?• Sicilia. Si.

The relationships of this species to 48 are obscure; they have often been treated as conspecific, but typical plants are quite distinct.
