Type:— Dactylorhiza aristata (Fisch. ex Lindl.) Soó.
Information about phylogenetic position of Dactylorhiza aristata acquired by 2018 was reviewed in detail by Bateman & Rudall (2018). Later phylogenomic data tentatively placed this species in a sister position to section Maculatae ( Brandrud et al. 2020) . Thus, D. aristata has a relatively advanced position in the genus, and in two-rank taxonomic classifications (e.g., Averyanov 1990), it should be included in sect. Dactylorhiza as a subsection.
