2. Kalanchoe synsepala Baker (1882: 110) View in CoL ( Fig. 2 View FIGURE 2 ).
Type:— MADAGASCAR. Central Madagascar , chiefly in Betsileo-land, recd. July 1880, [Reverend R.] Baron 248 [holotype Herb. K. barcode K000232865 ! (image of the specimen available for examination online at http://plants.jstor.org/stable/10.5555/al.ap. specimen.k000232865); isotype Herb. P barcode P00374198 ! (image of the specimen available for examination online at http:// coldb.mnhn.fr/catalognumber/mnhn/p/p00374198)] .
Nomenclatural notes:— Boiteau & Allorge-Boiteau (1995: 178), who regarded the [Reverend R.] Baron 248 specimen held at Herb. K as the holotype, are followed here. An isotype of the name K. synsepala is held at Herb. P. The Herb. P isotype is fragmentary and consists of only two peduncles, one with a few flowers and fruit attached, and some loose fruit and flowers. A paper capsule is also attached to the specimen mounting board.
Although Descoings (2003: 171) did not indicate the sorts of types of the name K. synsepala that he cited, he apparently agreed with the view of Boiteau & Allorge-Boiteau (1995: 178) and stated that the “ T:” of the name is “ Madagascar ( Baron 248 [K, P])”.
Kalanchoe synsepala View in CoL is the currently accepted name of K. trichantha Baker (1883: 140) View in CoL , with the type of the latter name being the type of K. [subg. Calophygia] sect. Trichanthae ( Berger 1930: 406, as “§ 4”) Smith (2023d: 178).
Taxonomic notes:—The name K. synsepala View in CoL is in use for an accepted species. It is included in K. [subg. Calophygia] sect. Trichanthae ( Berger 1930: 406, as “§ 4”) Smith (2023d: 178). Kalanchoe synsepala View in CoL is the only known stoloniferous kalanchoe (see for example Hall 1958: 86) and has been in cultivation globally for several decades (see for example Anonymous 1969: 45).
