Neumann, L.G. (1905) Notes sur les ixodidés. III. Archives de Parasitologie, 9, 225–241.
Type depository: not stated ( Neumann 1905): syntypes (males, females and a nymph); BMNH: a syntype (male) ( Keirans & Hillyard 2001).
Type locality: Argentina
Type host: Testudo argentina ( Neumann 1905)
Comments: this species was first described by Conil (1877) under the name Ixodes testudinis (preoccupied), as discussed in Guglielmone et al. (2001). However, Neumann (1905) described Amblyomma argentinae without considering this tick a synonym or a new name for Ixodes testudinis Conil. 1877 . Keirans & Hillyard referred to the type host as Geochelone chilensis .
